Suggestion

[edit]

The recent undiscussed page move & other changes resulted in a bit of a chaos at Jat people. And your not so well-thought-out page move requests will create even more chaos. So I request you to get more experience by editing some other articles/pages for the next two/three weeks before making any type of new request at Jat people. That way you will have a better understanding of the WP policies. And the article will also get a bit stabilised. Thanks.

PS: The South Asian social groups related articles are among the most disrupted pages on this project. So please also familiarise yourself with Wikipedia:General sanctions/South Asian social groups. - NitinMlk (talk) 18:54, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your advice. I will follow it. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 12:11, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, This is Himanshu Singh Baigoman. I am not able to edit this page. As I am a part of this family and genealogy and the direct descendant of Lord Rama and his son Shri Kusha. I would like to add more information. Himanshubaigoman (talk) 16:11, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Mikhail Konstantinovich Kudryavtsev has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

insufficient evidence for a biography

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Article creation

[edit]

If you are creating an article, remember few points:

  • If the subject meets WP:GNG or WP:BASIC, i.e. there are either around three in-depth sources or a healthy number of sources containing non-trivial coverage, then you can create an article. Note that sources in either case should be independent & reliable.
  • If there are not clear signs of them meeting GNG/BASIC, then they should meet WP:NPROF in the case of scholars. Normally, if a scholar's work has recieved at least three/four scholarly reviews, then they may be suitable for a biography. Similarly, let's say, if an ethnographer's couple of works have been cited around 100 times by others, then also they may be suitable for a biography. As an example, this book of Dipankar Gupta is cited around 400 times by others. - NitinMlk (talk) 17:32, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your valuable advice, NitinMlk. In the next few days, I will carefully read all of the links suggested above by you, in this section and in the section above (Suggestion). Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 05:43, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Mikhail Konstantinovich Kudryavtsev, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. As it stands there is zero credible indication of how this subject passes WP:PROF or WP:GNG. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline or WP:PROF and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Please note, this is done in an attempt to avoid Articles for Deletion. Cheers Sulfurboy (talk) 01:39, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have sent you a note about a page you started

Hello, Мастер Шторм

Thank you for creating Aparna Rao.

User:Sam-2727, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Hi there! I left a tag for "weasel words" on this page. I want you to know that I think this is a great article you created, you just need to remove some vague words such as in the lead ("Renowned"). For instance in the lead this could be changed to "known" and it would read in a much more neutral tone.

To reply, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Sam-2727}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ .

(Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Sam-2727 (talk) 17:36, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Sam-2727. First of all, thank you for reviewing the article, and suggesting this improvement. I have already replaced the word "renowned" with "known". Is it ok to request you to ask for more suggestions for the changes that should be done, if still required to be done, in order to comply with WP:WEASEL. This would be much appreciated. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 17:44, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the sentence, "Aparna Rao was an anthropologist, known (renowned → known) for her fieldwork on numerous social groups in South Asia" is a summarization of the content of the article. Did I made a mistake? Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 17:47, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, I have changed the sentence to "Aparna Rao was an anthropologist, known for her fieldwork on numerous social groups in India and Afghanistan." I would like to invite you to take a fresh look at the article. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:00, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sam-2727, I have changed the sentence to "Aparna Rao was an anthropologist, who had done studies on numerous social groups in Afghanistan, and some regions of India." Kindly note this edit also. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:13, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Great. I would also change the wording of "done significant research" (just say done research), and change "in due course, served as prime inspiration for her in chalking out her path" to "she has said was her primary inspiration for becoming an academic." After that, feel free to remove the tag. Sam-2727 (talk) 19:37, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done Thank you for your time and the above suggestions, Sam-2727. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 20:23, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Sam-2727. I have been trying to further improve this article. Kindly accept my invitation to review it once more, and provide suggestions for further improvements. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 21:30, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Мастер Шторм, I'll do that. I'll leave the comments on the article talk page. Do note that this isn't a "formal review" like last time. When I originally reviewed your article, it was part of the WP:NPP process. Sam-2727 (talk) 04:38, 9 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Aparna Rao, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Peripatetic (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Delinked. Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:27, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, as far as getting details regarding the editors of journal articles like this one is concerned, you can see there are a couple of links right above the pic of the journal: "The Journal of ... / Vol. 71, No. 28... / A Sikh Village". If you will click on the first link (The Journal of ...), it will take you to the main page of the journal, which contains links of all of its previous issues. As you are interested in specific details of the issue in question, you should click on the second link, namely "Vol. 71, No. 28...". That will take you to the "Table of Contents" of the issue, where you should click on the "Front Matter", which will take you to the initial pages which have the details about editors.

Secondly, if there are multiple editors/authors, you can use the |display-editors=/|display-authors= parameter to control the display of the names of editors/authors in a citation (see Template:Cite book for more details).

Thirdly, regarding the "Notable works" parameter of the infobox, the notability at this project is determined by the independent coverage, e.g. if there are multiple, in-depth reviews of a book, then it will be considered as a notable work – see WP:BOOKCRIT. So, in the case of Stephen Fuchs, there are at least half a dozen notable works, as all of them have at least three in-depth scholarly reviews. I guess listing that many works in the infobox seem unnecessary unless someone bothers to create separate articles for them. And I won't suggest you to create those articles, as that will take a lot of effort. Having said that, if you want to create an article about a book you like, you can learn from some high-quality articles listed at Category:FA-Class Book articles. You may also find some helpful details at Wikipedia:WikiProject Books. To sum up, I guess you can list those works at "Notable works" parameter of the infobox which meet WP:BOOKCRIT, even if none of them have a WP article. But it's up to you to decide.

Finally, if you want to search articles/reviews of/by/about some scholar at JSTOR, you can do that in the following two ways: au:"Stephen Fuchs" & ti:"Stephen Fuchs". I have used this method to locate 50-odd scholarly reviews of Fuchs' works, and I have listed them at Talk:Stephen Fuchs#Some reviews of his works. There are so many reviews of his works that I got bored by just listing them. So don't bother much about them. - NitinMlk (talk) 20:12, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

NitinMlk, thank you so much for your guidance, and thanks for taking out the time Мастер Шторм (talk) 04:44, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some rules of WP:Rfc

[edit]

This is a list of rules i found interesting.

  • An RfC should last until enough comment has been received that consensus is reached, or until it is apparent it won't be.

There is no required minimum or maximum duration; however, Legobot assumes an RfC has been forgotten and automatically ends it (removes the rfc template) 30 days after it begins, to avoid a buildup of stale discussions cluttering the lists and wasting commenters' time.

  • RfCs are a way to attract more attention to a discussion about making changes to pages or procedures, including articles, essays, guidelines, policies, and many other kinds of pages. It uses a system of centralized noticeboards and random, bot-delivered invitations to advertise discussions to uninvolved editors. The normal talk page guidelines apply to these discussions.
  • Try not to be confrontational. Be friendly and civil, and assume good faith of other editors' actions.
  • Edits to content under RfC discussion may be particularly controversial. Avoid making edits that others may view as unhelpful. Editing after others have raised objections may be viewed as disruptive editing or edit warring. Be patient; make your improvements in accord with consensus after the RfC is resolved.
  • Like other discussions, RfCs sometimes end without an agreement or clear resolution. Please remove the {{rfc}} tag when the dispute has been resolved, or when discussion has ended.

Anyone who wants an uninvolved editor to write a closing summary of the discussion (ideally with a determination of consensus) can formally request closure by posting at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/ Heba Aisha (talk) 06:29, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Spacing and paragraph writing

In Rajput article the section u added seems voluminous plz break them in paragraph for suitable reading. Otherwise you are a very competent editor. Thank u.Heba Aisha (talk) 01:42, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Heba Aisha. Thank you for the advice, and THANK YOU for the compliment

Thanks for improving my edit(s). I was actually away for some days and hadn't signed-in for nearly 3 weeks. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 14:31, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Heba Aisha, please always feel free to edit/rephrase the content added by me as/if required. Also, I think that sometimes, I am not able to choose the right words in English while rephrasing the academics or at least struggle to do so, therefore I won't mind if you would make any necessary changes to my edits. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:22, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Heba Aisha and LukeEmily. I have come across an interesting quote from a source, and I would like to share the quote with you.
  • Mishra, Patit Paban (1997). "Critique of Indianization Theory". Proceedings of the Indian History Congress. 58. Indian History Congress: 799–807. JSTOR 44144025.

The services of the brahmans were enlisted, who merged the Hindu religious system with local cults and made the rulers as avataras (incarnations) of God and eventually transmitted legal codes. [..] The priests became counsellors in the affairs of the courts and provided political support to the rulers by giving them a sort of investitute and genealogical list, which elevated their position, Thus the brahmana theory made the Indianization process an initiative of the elite of Southeast Asia.

HI, would you check this edit. Also some IP, possibly the same person, made a cherrypicked removal of sourced content [1] just before. Seems a POV pusher. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:46, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

These edits make a clear case of caste POV. Pinging @HinduKshatrana, LukeEmily, and Heba Aisha:. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:51, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fylindfotberserk, sorry for getting back to you so late. Actually, I did not log in, and consequently, did not see the messages. We have already mentioned in the articles' relevant section that this title is used by Rajputs also. So, that shall cover what they want to add. Taking into account all the edits by that user, I agree with your assessment of their behavior, definitely a case of POV pushing. In fact, I suggest that you report this to the admins. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 13:25, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fylindfotberserk, since the lead shall summarize the content of the article, maybe we shall mention in the lead that this title is used by the castes A,B,C,D...E. At the moment, 3 castes are already mentioned in the article with citations. Actually, I am thinking that the article would also get improved if we expand the lead. Let's try to provide a summary of the article in the lead. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 13:44, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fylindfotberserk, I have expanded the lead. Please feel free to edit it. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 14:27, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the expansion. It is better now. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:50, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A belated welcome

[edit]

Hi Мастер Шторм. Welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily in collaboration.

Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.

If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter. Regardless, editing in a manner that promotes an entity or viewpoint over others can appear to be detrimental to the purpose of Wikipedia and the neutrality required in articles.

Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.

If you work from reliable, independent sources, you shouldn't go far wrong. WP:RSP and WP:RSN are helpful in determining if a source is reliable.

I hope you find some useful information in all this, and welcome again. --Hipal (talk) 18:21, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Customary Strangers: New Perspectives on Peripatetic Peoples in the Middle East, Africa and Asia

[edit]

Would it be useful to include the reviews of this work in the "written work" section of Aparna Rao?

We have two reviews of this cited ([4] and [5]), but no summary in the written works section

Sam-2727 (talk) 18:14, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sam-2727, got your message. Just give me 15-20 minutes maximum, I will reply soon. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:22, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, yes it's a good idea to add from Robert M. Hayden's review. But, what can we add from the book? We have already cited page 341 in the article. Can you be more specific about what can be added from the book? Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:49, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, should I make a draft to be added from Hayden's review and post it here first rather than adding directly to article? That way, we would be able to discuss it also. I can complete that in some time. Also, can the title of the section be changed from "written work" to "reviews of written work"? Is "written work" the most appropriate title? Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:58, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Мастер Шторм, the draft would be great. I think "written work" is an appropriate title for now. We have already cited it, but only to say the term "periapetic peoples" was coined by her. It would be best to include directly his thoughts on her book Customary Strangers: New Perspectives on Peripatetic Peoples in the Middle East, Africa and Asia as well. Sam-2727 (talk) 19:02, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, we can do this in my sandbox: User:Sam-2727/sandbox. I didn't copy over the citations, but I think that's ok for just modifying the draft. Sam-2727 (talk) 19:04, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure Sam-2727, I will prepare a draft and post it in your sandbox. It should take 20-25 minutes or less. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 19:08, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, I have posted the draft in your sandbox. It may require some addition/deletion or some rephrasing. Let's do that. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 19:55, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Мастер Шторм, I rephrased some of it. Please take a look. Sam-2727 (talk) 20:35, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, you are gifted )) It's so much better rephrased/rebuilt. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 20:44, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, are you sure you don't want to mention year after the book's title. It helps in showing the chronology of content, and also that at a given time what subject the academic was working on and at that time how the reviewer(s) reviewed their work. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 20:50, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Мастер Шторм, I have added the year next to the title. Sam-2727 (talk) 20:54, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, thank you for sharing this with me. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 20:59, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sam-2727, if you would like to advice me regarding the edits I am have made/making to Aparna Rao, kindly feel free to do that. I always welcome a good advice. Matras provided many details about Aparna Rao, some of which are not in the article at present. He did not work at the same universities as Rao, so if there is really a need to re-cite any content in article to a different source, we can consider and discuss this.

The concept of peripatetics has been introduced in Romani studies by scholars such as Aparna Rao (1985, 1987), Joseph Berland (1982) and Salo and Salo (1982). Peripataticism is a mode of subsistence of great adaptive value. Peripatetics are endogamous groups who "employ regular spatial mobility as an economic strategy" (Rao 1987, 1).

Here, the definition of the term "peripatetic peoples", according to Rao, has been provided. The author also states that she introduced this concept in the Romani studies.

In 1985, Aparna Rao published an article providing an overview of peripatetic communities. She described nomadism as an adaptation strategy in response to disasters: "It is possible that some communities have chosen to become peripatetic, but in the majority of cases, they were brought into being by the pressures of sedentary (or, in some cases, pastoral) societies, which today contribute to their more or less rapid disappearance."

Henriette Asséo was a professor at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales.

Aparna Rao has drawn attention to the 'Zigeunerin als Br¨ucke zwischen den Gesellschaften' and notes that one of the traditional roles of the female Romani was to deal and have contact with non-Romanies.

Google translates 'Zigeunerin als Br¨ucke zwischen den Gesellschaften' as "Gypsy as a bridge between societies".

Is the obituary article by Yaron Matras available at JSTOR? If not, then if you can access it without paying anything from your pocket, kindly share this one article with me. Also, there is a free preview available at above link for some initial pages which also contains many details about her. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 05:01, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re-adding ping @Sam-2727: above comments were edited and no idea if the pings got affected or not. So, re-added ping. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 05:15, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Afghanistan is the first country to the west of India and Pakistan where we can identify industrial nomads who do not speak any of the local languages but a dialect from North India, in this case, Inku. Aparna Rao has identified four clansJalali, Pikraj, Shadibaz and Vangawala – who fall into this definition of 'Gypsy'. The locals call them 'Jat', which is used in a pejorative way. [..] They number in total some 7,000 and live on the edge of Afghan society.

Мастер Шторм, I will look over this in detail over the weekend (so in six days time) since this is a lot. It might be useful to add information from these sources, particularly to offset the obituaries (which might not be as reliable). In the meantime, I unfortunately couldn't find the obituary on JSTOR. Perhaps you could request it here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request. Sam-2727 (talk) 04:27, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Sam-2727. I will post a request at RE/RR. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 06:25, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In so far as we are concerned with works on secret languages (and similar phenomena) and their speakers from Afghanistan itself, relevant information can be found in works by French researchers (Kieffer 1983; Dor 1977). Among the most valuable of these we can list the works of Aparna Rao, who, while conducting ethnological research on peripatetic groups, made important observations in relation to their "own languages." This research dates back to the 1980s—that is, it emerged subsequent to the Polish findings which will be discussed later. Rao's chief asset was her knowledge of a language from the Indian group at a level attainable only by a native speaker. This enabled her to perceive phenomena not previously noticed by anyone else, during her field studies in Afghanistan. The archives of the author of the present book preserve fragments of her correspondence with Aparna Rao and Andreas Tietze, dating from 1987–1988, related to research on secret languages.

Per publisher [6], Pstrusińska is a professor at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Warsaw University. She has conducted extensive research in Asia and Europe. She is also a member of the Committee of Oriental Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Her academic interests centre on the languages and cultures of Afghanistan and the wider surrounding region, while encompassing comparative studies of Eurasiatic cultures, including the Celtic. Sam-2727, though you will notice this when you would go through the above sources, still just wanted to say that a few of these sources also have new significant information which is not present in the article at the moment, and which can be added. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 11:39, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Мастер Шторм, A look through these suggests that these are all more independent sources that could be integrated and/or replace less reliable sources. Do you think you could add them, or do you want me to? Perhaps we should create a separate draft of the article and work on developing these sources in that draft before adding them to the article. Sam-2727 (talk) 05:48, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, thank you for reading them thoroughly. I have actually added some content from many of these sources but not from all. Yes, probably, a bit more can be added (or replaced?) from these sources. My additions might also be further improved by you (wording of sentences added). I will be happy to see you add/edit from them or create a draft in sandbox where we can work out on the content. If you decide to make a draft, then please let me know when you have started that, and I will follow up for sure. Sam-2727, I have viewed the recent developments at Talk:Aparna Rao. I had edited ("Research" section) from several of these sources and from one more source which is not listed here, and if there is any advice that you would like to give regarding my edits from those sources to the "Research" section, I am all ears. I hope that I did OK . Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 09:32, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Мастер Шторм, Sorry for the late response. I will take a look at this as part of getting the article up to shape for the DYK review I opened. I'll review the sources more specifically after the DYK review is closed. Sam-2727 (talk) 06:41, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I reviewed and cleaned up some of the material you added as part of my review for the DYK. Over the next couple of days, as part of culling the article, I will take a look at the sources. Hopefully we can replace some or most of the obituary sources. Sam-2727 (talk) 06:41, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, it's fine. We are volunteer contributors here and we can only give the time we can. I am watching, following up, and learning. I appreciate your kindness in improving my editing. Thank you for reviewing and cleaning up. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 12:34, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, I will try to find citations in the French, German and Italian, though it would be hard to actually get anything solid because of the limited preview of books at Google books. However, I will give it a try and ping you if I find anything that can be added. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 08:49, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Aparna Rao

[edit]

On 10 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Aparna Rao, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the German anthropologist Aparna Rao studied the impact of the Kashmir conflict on both lives and the environment? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Aparna Rao. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Aparna Rao), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

anthropologists

Thank you for quality articles about anthropologists such as Aparna Rao, Gabriella Eichinger Ferro-Luzzi, Mikhail Kudryavtsev and Hubert Walter (anthropologist), for being open for advice, for detailed edit summaries, for award-sharing, - Russian user, you are an awesome Wikipedian!

You are recipient no. 2508 of Precious, a prize of QAI. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:37, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Gerda Arendt. Soft and warm bear hugs to you )))))))
I would say that my experience on Wikipedia so far has been great! I feel fortunate to have an excellent mentor, Sam-2727, who has put a lot time and energy in guiding me and in improving my editing
I, because of work, spend more time outside of Russia than in Russia, and probably the next time I will be in the US, I would like to meet Sam (I'm assuming they're American) in person and have lots of beers with them ))))))) Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 16:20, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, soft bear hugs feel great! Sam's time will come, - I just try to keep the award to one per day, and author before nominator. She is also featured on Portal:Germany, DYK - for a bit longer. I sit in Germany, and haven't travelled to the U.S. since 2016 when I took pics here. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:25, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gerda Arendt, the garden looks lovely. I love nature and always try to spend my time close to mother nature and away from concrete jungles. Also, thank you for sharing with me that she is featured on Portal:Germany. I have been to Germany a number of times, and I always came back with great memories
I would say that Italy is my favorite place on the globe. It is like a magnet that attracts me with great force of feelings. I am in love with Italy!
I, Masha and the Bear wish that you and everyone around you stay in good health ))))))) Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 17:02, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. When I was a child I read all I could find about Florence, and went to Italy several times, from Alps to Sicily. - I dear friend is ill, so your wish won't work completely, but thanks anyway. She and I and loved ones went to the gardens. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:06, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for sharing. There is always so much to be explored about Italy. It's sad that your friend is not in good health. In my heart, I have requested Snegurochka to help your friend in getting a speedy recovery from illness. Snegurochka is very kind, and she would definitely help. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 17:16, 10 January 2021 (UTC) (Pinging @Gerda Arendt: Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 17:20, 10 January 2021 (UTC))[reply]
Did you know that just yesterday, we mentioned the snow maiden here? Would you know more about the recordings? 1955 is long ago. Would be nice to know which roles she sang, - probably mostly minor, at the beginning of her career. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:25, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gerda Arendt, I did not know that but thanks for sharing this with me. Forgive me, I hardly know anything about Biserka Cvejić other than her profession. Sorry! Мастер Шторм (talk) 17:34, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, - could just have been that you knew where to find old Russian recordings, and being able to read. - I watch here, no pings necessary ;) - Last Russian subject was Nina Dorliak, and when the next comes, I'll ask you to help. Sometimes it's just finding interlanguage links - {{ill}} - which I had no way of detecting. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:40, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
For Dorliak, could you perhaps help to her name in Russian where it fits, as we have Serbian for the other singer? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:43, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, if you need help with the language, please feel free to let me know. However, about music, I am more of a Fleurie person We have an article on Nina at the Russian Wikipedia – ru:Дорлиак, Нина Львовна (Дорлиак, Нина Львовна = Dorliak, Nina L'vovna). Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 17:54, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
 Done [7]. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:00, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I saw that article but didn't know which bit corresponds to what, - didn't think of the different order of surname and given name although even the Bavarians have that. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:01, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's ok. Please always feel free to let me know any time and any number of times if/when you need help with Russian. I have to go, for now. In your free time, if possible, try this song once. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:13, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New day: In Mira Mendelson, there are already names in Russian, but we have two words common name vs. three in brackets. I'd simply remove the middle one - but it's different from all in the full name, - I can tell that much. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:15, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gerda Arendt, I cannot understand – what is the advice in your comment? Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 06:13, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I was just asking about Mira Mendelson (Russian: Ми́ра Алекса́ндровна Мендельсо́н, and wondering about Алекса́ндровна: it's not in the common name, and it's different from Абра́мовна in the full name. What can we do? Add an infobox? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:46, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Her otchestvo is Абра́мовна. About the otchestvo Алекса́ндровна, the only logical explanation I have is that it would have been changed by her at some point of time in her life. The changes in her name might have been done by her to do, if I may say, Russian-ization of her identity. I am guessing that she did so either because of some of the social conditions of that time or for some other reason(s) related to the progress in her career/profession. Such changes were not very common but they did take place (sometimes during the time of the Russian Empire and sometimes during the time of the USSR), though the reason(s) for doing so might have varied from person to person. I have created an infobox for her in the article. Please take a look. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 10:22, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Beautiful! ... and thanks for explaining. I try to keep a short list of articles I work on a given day on top of my user page, and a longer one below (and much longer hidden), - feel free to check for such things. Nothing Russian in sight, though. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:15, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure! I will keep taking a look there at regular intervals Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 14:47, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Naypyidaw Victoria rape case

[edit]

Hey there. The section I've removed is completely unsourced, unreferenced anywhere online, and smells like libel. Thanks, DenkMit (talk) 21:34, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DenkMit: Really?Мастер Шторм (talk) 07:24, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. The linked reference is to a story about the Cardinal speaking out against China and has literally no reference at all to the rape case. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DenkMit (talkcontribs) 21:44, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Gamblers (Shostakovich)

[edit]

Could you help us with a translation of The Gamblers (Shostakovich) from the Russian version? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:49, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Gerda Arendt. Please copy-paste the sentence to be translated here and I will try to translate it in English without any mistake Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 14:40, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's more than a sentence. Click on the opera, then the Russian version. I can see that it's longer, and that's it. Would you prefer to do it in a sandbox, compared to right into the article? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:40, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gerda Arendt, I would prefer to assist in situations when you may need help with language (example) or with issues which may require a better knowledge of the subject under discussion (example). I wouldn't really enjoy going for a word to word translation. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 04:27, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Did I say word by word? I want to expand the article, and I have the language barrier. The easiest approach was to ask someone who doesn't have it. I'll see what I can find elsewhere but not today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:18, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I wrote what I knew, - could you please check? - Different question: File:Воспойте Господеви песнь нову (псалом 95).jpeg - the explanation has too much Russian without translation. What does this image show? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:55, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Gerda Arendt. As you may see (last thread on this page), one of the articles I wrote, Talk:International Quarterly for Asian Studies (which I believed met WP:JOURNALCRIT), has been nominated for a speedy deletion (not even an AfD nomination?). It was only after being sure that it met WP:JOURNALCRIT (which I still believe), I decided to create that article. So, I am in kind of a mood with my vodka and winston cigarettes. Sorry, but till the point I made (at article talk page) is accepted or rejected, I just don't want to do anything else, at least not right now. Let that be over and then I would try to look into your queries. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 05:45, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to read that, and missed it below. As you can see from the last thread on my talk, we deal with life and death of an editor who was one of the pillars of the project. Sorry, otherwise I'd look into the deletion prospect. Anybody with knowledge could remove the prod. Why are there not more links to other articles? Have you tried to talk to Randykitty? There's a person behind the proposal. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:59, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to hear that, Gerda Arendt. I hope that SlimVirgin is in a better world than ours.
I have pinged Randykitty. I hope that they will appreciate the recent additions to the article? [8] Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 07:08, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Guten Abend, Gerda Arendt. I looked at the "Description" provided by the editor for the File:Воспойте Господеви песнь нову (псалом 95).jpeg at Wikimedia Commons. That is a quote, in Russian, from the Book of Psalms. I don't really have much knowledge of the Bible, however, I have checked online and it appears to be from the Psalm verses: later-90s and 149 (Sing unto the Lord a new song).
Regarding your other question, as I understand, you want me to check your translation (i.e. your edits) of the text from the article on Russian Wikipedia. Right? Just wanted to ask, have you ever listened to the works of Fleurie and Sia? Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 16:23, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
For the psalms: the image has appeared with Psalm 95 for a long time, but was replaced yesterday. It doesn't come up on the commons for that specific psalm, which is explained if the image deals with several psalms. It's a pretty and impressive image, I wonder for what we could use it. - For the opera: I didn't translate but write from scratch. What you might do is check if it contradicts the Russian, or if there is something in Russian that would urgently be needed in English also. Don't if you have no time. - I probably listened to their music but not consciously, - will try later. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:31, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Prokofiev symphonies

[edit]

I went over his symphonies because Symphony No. 6 (Prokofiev) (not by me, any of them) will be pictured on the Main page in a few minutes. Several questions you can perhaps answer, and never mind if not.

  • Some use day/month format, others month/day format. Is there some consistency wanted for people from the area/period? ... and which?
  • Some have vague information about the premiere (the earlier the vaguer), and I don't find it in German and French. Is there something more about places and orchestras in the Russian versions?
  • One date is given as 21 April in the lead, but 18 April in the text. Can you verify that probably 21 is correct?
  • Any more detail about dedication, durations, publiscations welcome.

Thank you for thinking about it! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:44, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Guten Abend, Gerda Arendt. What I can tell you is that when my business is with the Slavic people, I usually use the DMY format. For other peoples, I use the MDY format. And, no one has ever complained If you have a specific question, you may ask, and I would get you a solid answer.
And, regarding your second and fourth question, I would say that I go to neither the orchestras nor the ballet performances, however if you ask me a straight question, I may be able to get you a proper answer. Just shoot the question at me
I was looking at Symphony No. 6 (Prokofiev) article and I couldn't find a mention of either 21 April or 18 April. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 16:01, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry that I was not precise enough. "over the symphonies", meaning precisely his 7 symphonies, - the 6th just the occasion and reason for looking.
I guess I don't have to give you seven links. You can change the number in the url, or go via the navbox. Changed my mind, why not:
No. 1: md format, no orchestra, no hall (only Petrograd)
No. 2: md format, no orchestra, no hall (only Paris)
No. 3: dm format, no hall (only Paris)
No. 4: md format, no hall (only Boston)
No. 5: md format
No. 6: md format, no hall (only Leningrad)
No. 7: md format, orchestra and hall in Moscow given but without link
Better? The 21 vs. 18 mystery is solved, was my mistake. The composer article uses dm format, - I wonder why not all of his compositions simply follow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:30, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gerda Arendt, sorry for the delayed reply. I am wondering – what are the questions here? Where are the questions? Or, do you simply want me to find and add information in these "music" related articles? Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 08:23, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Let's take an example: the English entry for the First Symphony has no entry for an orchestra, and no entry for a hall where the first perfomance took place. Does the Russian Wikipedia have these details? If yes, can they be added - with a source of course - to here? Then also the basic question: shouldn't they all use the same date format, and should it be dm, as for the composer? That question is perhaps for the project (Classical music) to answer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:37, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's more like it, Gerda. You may see that I've made only a handful of edits in the past couple of weeks. I am running on a tight schedule for something. However, I will be having lots of free time during the first week of April. So, I will sit with a relaxed mind and dedicate some hours, specially, to look for the desired information on Russian Wikipedia and add it here with sources. Please note that if I won't find sources for the information to be copied in the English language, then I would have to add sources in the Russian language. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 11:19, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gerda, I went through these 7 articles on Russian Wikipedia to look for the desired information but that didn't prove useful. No help there! Till now, I could find the requested information only for the first article. If I wouldn't be able to find the information in the next few days, I will ask around. Someone may come up with something. Just to say that your comments on the proposed move were entirely valid, even if we disagreed on the right way to apply WP:COMMONNAME. Thank you for trying to make Wikipedia a better place! Kohlrabi Pickle (talk) 07:57, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I also thank you for improving my knowledge of the application of this policy, Kohlrabi Pickle. Soft and warm bear hugs, Мастер Шторм (talk) 09:11, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Username

[edit]

Hi, I just wanted to make a quick comment about your username. As per Wikipedia:Username policy, a non-Latin username is allowed, but can be problematic. From Wikipedia:Signatures;

Editors with non-Latin usernames are welcome to edit in Wikipedia. However, non-Latin scripts, such as Arabic, Armenian, Chinese, Cyrillic, Greek, Hebrew, Indic scripts, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Thai and others, are illegible to most other contributors of the English Wikipedia. Not everyone uses a keyboard that has immediate access to non-Latin characters, and names that cannot be pronounced cannot be retained in memory. As a courtesy to the rest of the contributors, users with such usernames are encouraged to sign their posts (at least in part) with Latin characters. For an example refer to User:Παράδειγμα, who signs his posts as Παράδειγμα/Paradigma.

I understand your username is apparently Russian, and (roughly) translates to "Master Storm". I'm not sure what the significance of that is to you, but if you would consider adding that, or another Latinized name or word to your signature, it would make interacting with you a great deal easier for your fellow editors. To attach a Latinized word or name to your signature, just go to "Preferences", and on the first page, under "User Profile", scroll down to "Signatures". There you will see a text box where you can customize your signature to your liking (you will notice a large number of unique, colorful and creative signatures among the various talk pages here) and you will be able to modify your signature with an add-on in Latin script that will help others identify you and communicate with you. I hope this helps, and happy editing!. - wolf 06:46, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article International Quarterly for Asian Studies has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable journal. Not indexed in any selective databases, no independent sources. Does not meet WP:NJournals or WP:GNG.

Suggestion for Bhats page

[edit]

Hello, I understand this topic has kept you busy for the last few days. I am sorry for that. But I wouldn't be insisting on these edits unless I was very familiar with the subject. Recently, you reworded the sentence to something else. I have no problem. You can even write that Bhats were kings(if you can find a source), I don't care. As I told you earlier, other sources can be provided which are be in conflict with what's on the page. I do not want to do any of that.

I just have one small issue, which I have tried to explain multiple times: just leave out the 'Charan' term from the page. This is not personal or some agenda. Because as I said, I can provide other sources to negate it. But it will damage the structure and readability of the page.

I simply suggest not to use the term 'Charan'. And keep everything as it is. Use royal, elite, or any grand term for Bhat, I am not against that. I hope we can agree on this issue. And prevent more time-wasting on this. Thank you.Krayon95 (talk) 11:11, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thought of dropping a note regarding massive changes to the article (here) after your last edit. I wasn't editing for a year, so couldn't keep an eye on it. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:00, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
